If ever there was a festival to suit the gnat-like attention spans of children, the Aesthetica Short Film Festival is it. ASFF hits York for the third year this week, kicking off on Thursday 7th November and running until Sunday 10th November. For adults there are masterclasses, networking events and guest screenings, and a rich selection of films from across the world. Whether drama, comedy, thrillers, documentaries, animation or music videos are your thing, you’re bound to find something in the extensive programme to float your boat.
Excitingly, this year sees the launch of a family-friendly programme. Hooray! The family-friendly programme is divided into two categories: animation and drama. Animations include the tales of Estefan, the world’s greatest hairdresser, and a bear with a stolen beehive trying to flee his country. The drama programme is equally eclectic, with international stories of tuck-shop heists, parachutes and old wooden boats. And with the shortest films running to just a few minutes, even the youngest children should get something out of it. Makes a nice change from another episode of Peppa Pig, that’s for sure.
