Rowntree Park re-opens after floods

Rowntree Park is one of the best places to go in York with kids: plenty of green space, a pretty pond, tennis courts, skate park, basketball court, reading cafe and two play areas. It’s fair to say that we’ve really missed it since it closed earlier this year because of the epic flooding.

Well, the good news is that it has finally re-opened to the public. The less good news is that, thanks to the arrival of the global pandemic, we have to enjoy it within the limits of the current guidelines. This means that the park will be open during normal hours BUT the play areas, basketball courts, skatepark and tennis courts are closed. People should enjoy it as part of their daily exercise, and remember the rules on social distancing (although we can’t promise that the geese got the memo on the two-metre gap, more’s the pity). So, enjoy Rowntree Park as it is for now, and let’s all look forward to the day when we can take full advantage of everything it has to offer. – we’ll never take a family trip to the park for granted again!
