Whether it’s the glitter, colour, fizz or fragrance, our kids are absolute suckers for a bath bomb. So it didn’t take much persuasion to get them to agree to accompany me to Make-it Monday at Lush York, purveyors of natural, handmade cosmetics. Special one-hour long holiday workshops are running throughout the summer, and we were invited along to make a Sunnyside Bubble Bar. For the uninitiated, Sunnyside is a shimmering, golden bar of indulgence that smells of orange, lemon and tangerines and will turn a bath from boring to brilliant.
It was the job of our little group to create a batch of Sunnyside under the enthusiastic and expert guidance of the lovely Georgina (who was amazing with the kids and is a real asset to Lush). She took us through the process step-by-step, and we all had a go at mixing, prodding, sniffing and kneading the mixture. It’s a messy, hands-on business that grown-ups and children alike enjoyed getting stuck into.
We also created a bath bomb cocktail, learnt about how Lush is fighting back against plastic and had a go painting on bubbles with the new bubble brushes.
By the end of the session, we each had a gloriously golden Sunnyside to take home that we can’t wait to try (just a patience-testing 48 hours to wait!). The kids and I all thoroughly enjoyed it (all ages are welcome) and the children have asked if we can go back every Monday to make something else. They might be pushing their luck, but if you fancy having a go, here’s what’s coming up:
Monday 30th July – Sex Bomb bath bomb
Monday 6th August – Brightside bubble bath
Monday 13th August – The Comforter bubble bath
Monday 20th August – Big Blue bath bomb
Monday 27th August – Creamy Candy bubble bar
Monday 3rd September – Sex Bomb bath bomb
It’s £10 per person, takes place from 12 noon to 1 pm and you can call 01904 651 268 to book or call into the store.
Thank you to Lush for inviting us along. We had a lovely time and will only recommend things we have genuinely enjoyed.
