October half term in York: TakeOver Festival at the National Railway Museum

TakeoverWhat happens when you let a bunch of creative 12 to 26 year olds takeover the National Railway Museum? Find out at this year’s TakeOver festival. This October half term, York Theatre Royal’s TakeOver festival moves to everyone’s favourite train museum and there are shows, workshops and activities galore for all age ranges. Here are just a few of the many highlights. Head down during half term and get involved.

The Great Train Songery
Explorer Johnny Acecraft has been let loose in the museum’s Warehouse, and want to talk about its unusual artefacts in the only way he knows: musical comedy.
Monday 26th to Wednesday 28th October – 12noon, 12.45pm, 2pm, 2.45pm – Meet at Warehouse entrance – pay what you can

TakeOver Festival YorkPigeon Party
Look out! Those pesky pigeons are running riot in the museum again. Ernie the security guard wants them gone. The Pigeon Party will be popping up around the museum so join in when you see it.
Sat 24th, Mon 26th, Wed 28th, Fri 30th & Sun 1st November – 11am-4pm –  Across the museum – Free

masksA Journey With Maude
In this intimate time-travelling adventure, you’ll be whisked from Vienna to San Francisco to witness moments of an extraordinary woman’s life.
Monday 26th October to Sunday 1st November  – 11.30am, 12.15pm, 2.15pm, 3pm, 3.45pm –  Tri-composite carriage, Station Hall – £5, not wheelchair accessible – booking required

Suitcase Stories
A mysterious suitcase sits in the middle of the room, overflowing with curious objects… Join in a very special workshop, where you can work with archive items and artefacts from the museum. For ages 8-12, please bring your own lunch and drink.
Tuesday 27th October – 10.30am to 1.30pm – meet at the Box Office – £10

All Aboard
This workshop lets you time-travel to the most important moments in the railway story. Get into character with period costumes and create theatrical snapshots of railway life. For ages 5-17.
Monday 26th October to Sunday 1st November – 11am and additional workshops at 2pm on Monday 26th and Saturday 31st October – meet at the Box Office – £5
