The Eboracum Roman Festival: Best bits for kids!

0

Head to York Museum Gardens this May half term as the Eboracum Roman Festival comes to town. There’ll be lots of fun Roman activities, including military parades, siege weapon demonstrations, birds of prey displays, a living history camp and talks by expert speakers. Children will be able to meet Roman soldiers and take part in army drills, as well as learning about life in the legions and Roman children at special kids’ curator talks. Camera phones at the ready: on Saturday and Sunday, don’t miss seeing over six Roman legions and Roman civilians march through the streets of York.

The Yorkshire Museum, home of some of Britain’s most treasured Roman artefacts, will be running activities and workshops throughout the festival. While you’re there, don’t miss the Wold Newton Hoard, the largest Roman hoard of its period to be found in the North that contains incredibly rare coins from a time of great uncertainty in the Roman Empire and Yorkshire.
