Not planned anything for the Easter bank holiday weekend yet? Glad to hear it! Keep away from hotel booking websites and tell your parents that they can come and visit you this year instead, because Make it York is launching York’s first ever Easter Family Festival and you’d be mad to miss it.
Over the last few months we’ve been busy working with our friends at Make it York to put together four days of fantastic free family fun in the heart of York over Easter. It’s been really exciting to be part of it from the start, and it’s a massive relief that we can now talk about it to you!
From Good Friday to Easter Monday (25th to 28th March 2016) we’ll be bringing Parliament Street to life with a packed programme of brilliant children’s activities that we’ve handpicked to showcase some of the best of York for kids. We’ll unveil the full timetable soon, but you can expect singing, street dance, rugby, drama, dancing, yoga and forest school with a twist in our purpose-built tent. No need to book or pay anything, just drop in and join in! Alongside the activity programme, there’ll be a chance to get hands on throughout the day with JORVIK and York’s Chocolate Story among others. Anyone feeling arty can have a go at designing their own Easter egg or Easter bunny to be in with a chance of winning a generous voucher from Fenwick too. If that’s not enough, there’ll be face-painting and frequent performances from everyone’s favourite warring spouses, Punch and Judy.
Much as we’d love you to stay with us all day, there’ll be lots of other things to explore along Parliament Street during the Festival. York Chocolate Festival will be on hand to fulfil your sweet-toothed needs – why not make a chocolate lolly to take home (or eat on the spot?). Still hungry? No worries – there’ll be a great selection of street food which you can sit and eat in the sunshine (yep, we’ve ordered sunshine for the weekend too *crosses fingers*). And don’t miss the lovely vintage fairground rides in St Sampson’s Square either. We’re really excited about it and hope you’ll join us. Keep watching our website, Facebook page, Twitter and of course the Little Vikings magazine (new issue out shortly) for more details of what’s on. It’s going to be cracking!
