New play area at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal

Great news for family visitors to Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal: a new play area has opened in time for the summer holidays, and it’s twice the size of the previous one. The custom built design includes a mini wooden abbey – resembling Fountains Abbey itself – as well as sensory equipment such as chimes, a ball roll and skittles, and an accessible swing and roundabout.
Little dare devils can clamber and climb on a gigantic 8 metre rope bridge and whizz along a 31 metre zipwire – always a favourite. There’s scramble nets and posts, swings, fireman’s poles, a woodland house, a slide and a wobbly bridge too. Built from sustainable timber and hand-spliced ropes, it’s been designed to blend in with the landscape and woods around so that kids can hop, skip and jump from one end to the other underneath the shade of the trees. The play area’s near the visitor centre, but don’t get stuck there. There are miles of beautiful scenery to explore, and there’s den building every day of the holidays too. Check the forecast, pack a picnic and have a great day out in the Yorkshire countryside.
