Fountains Abbey is a beautiful place, well worth the drive from York. And at Christmas it’s even more magical, with lots of events for the whole family to enjoy. Here’s what we’ve got to look forward to this year.
Music and Lights
Wander through the estate to see the trees twinkling with light and the Abbey all aglow with the colours of the rainbow. Stop by the cellarium to catch some live festive music too.
Every weekend from 26th November to 18th December (also 27th & 31st December, excluding 11th December) – 3.30pm to 5pm (last entry 4pm), choirs/band 3.30pm to 4.30pm – Free event, but admission applies (free for National Trust members)
Father Christmas’s Grotto
Father Christmas is touching down at Fountains Abbey this year and he comes bearing gifts. If you’ve been good, pay a visit to the cosy grotto and he may have a special something for you.
Saturdays & Sundays from 26th November to 18th December; Monday 19 December and Tuesday 20 December – 1pm to 3pm – £5 per child includes gift; admission charge applies (free entry for National Trust members).
The reindeers’ explorer map
The Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal deer have prepared a special explorer map for Father Christmas’s reindeer, pointing out all the amazing places across the estate. Grab your very own reindeer’s explorer map to follow in their hoofsteps.
26th November to Tuesday 3rd January, 10am to 4pm
Fountains Christmas Post Office
Visit the Fountains Abbey Post Office to write to Father Christmas to tell him how good you’ve been. They’ll provide the paper, pens, envelopes and stamps – all that’s left is for you to write your wish list, become the postmaster, and send it off to the North Pole. If you drop in after Christmas, it’ll still be open so you can write and say thank you instead! Free, but admission price applies (free for National Trust members)
26th November to Tuesday 3rd January, 11am to 3pm
