Museum Gardens

Museum Gardens York for KidsThis ten-acre botanical garden plays host to the Yorkshire Museum.  Its riverside location and stunning medieval ruins make it a special place.

We say – Slap bang in the middle of the city, the Museum Gardens are ideal for a gentle stroll or to run off energy. There might not be any play equipment but there are enough ruins to clamber on (in the permitted areas only!) and squirrels to spot to keep everyone entertained.

Good to know – This is a popular place for a picnic. Grab lunch down the road (there are loads of places nearby to pick up a sandwich) and find yourself a bench or patch of grass. It gets busy when the sun’s out, but there’s plenty of space. For little ones, consider combining a run around the Museum Gardens with a trip to the children’s section of the library. You’re also ideally placed for a trip round the Yorkshire Museum.
