Recently we brought you news of the fantastic Early Years Explorers activities for two to five year olds at the Yorkshire Museum and Castle Museum. It wouldn’t be fair for the pre-schoolers to have all the fun, so we’re pleased to say that there’s also a programme of activities for babies under the age of two called Museum Baby. These sessions are linked to the exhibitions and include storytelling, songs and sensory activities that all relate to the Early Years Curriculum. Even better, the sessions are totally free (normal admission charges apply for the museums, but York Card holders get in free). Here’s what’s coming up in the autumn term.
Friday 4th October – 11am to 11.45 am – Yorkshire Museum – Autumn: Play in the leaves and pine cones, and listen to stories about autumn.
Friday 8th November – 11am to 11.45am – York Castle Museum – Victorian Wash Day: Play in the bubbles, wash the clothes in soapy water, feel the crazy soap and listen to the story of Mrs Mopple’s washing line.
Friday 15th November – 11am to 11.45am – York Castle Museum – Mills: watch the windmills move and make the water wheel turn, play with messy flour to make gloop, and listen to the story of Little Red Hen.
Friday 22nd November – 11am to 11.45am – York Castle Museum – Light and Dark: Explore the lights in the dark den, find the stars, and listen to the story of Can’t You Sleep Little Bear?
Friday 29th November – 11am to 11.45am – York Castle Museum – Farming: Look for vegetables in the mud, explore the fruits and vegetables and listen to the story of Handa’s Surprise.
Friday 6th December – 11am to 11.45am – York Castle Museum – Sweets: Have fun in the sweet investigation area, enjoy messy chocolate play and listen to the story of The Chocolate Voyage.
