This weekend sees the start of a week of celebration of all things edible and drinkable: the York Food and Drink Festival. The city’s going to be full of things to see, do, nibble and sup, with something to appeal to all the family. Parents might be interested in York CAMRA Beer and Cider Festival – babysitter permitting – which runs at the Knavesmire on the 18th and 19th September (from 5.30pm on the 18th and noon on the 19th; £5 entry). And there’s loads for children to enjoy during the festival too, from a packed programme of free demonstrations in St Sampson’s Square to stalls and markets throughout the city. Other highlights include the chance to make your own chocolate bar at the drop-in workshop in St Sampson’s Square, the opportunity to immerse yourselves in the science of bread-making at York Castle Museum and watching wannabe Jamie Olivers battle it out in the Young Chefs Competition, also in St Sampson’s Square. Tasty.
