Half Term Heads-Up: York Theatre Royal Family Arts Festival Little VikingsIt might seem like the academic year has only just started, but before long you’ll have to think about how to entertain the kids during half term. There’s loads of stuff coming up in York for children during the October holiday and we’ll be bringing you the best bits. First off is the Family Arts Festival being run by York Theatre Royal at the De Grey Rooms as part of the national Family Arts Festival. There are loads of things to do as a family, from singing to fighting workshops to zumba! Here’s a taster of the programme:

Storytelling Workshop – Wednesday 30th October – 11.30am to 1.30pm – £6

Fancy making a story together? Become a troubadour, a wordsmith or a wandering minstrel in our Storytelling workshop.

Family Zumba – Wednesday 30th October – 3pm to 4pm – £5

Work off your hearty lunch with a very special Family Zumba session. Some lively tunes will get you in the mood for Jo Thorne’s fun, friendly and energetic class.

Singing Workshop – Thursday 31st October – 11.30am to 12.30pm – £5

Always wanted to be in a choir? Do it together with all the family. In just one hour you’ll sound like a chorus of angels. Lots of fun songs to be learnt and sung, led by choir mistress Libby Redman.

Stage Combat Workshop – Thursday 31st October – 3pm to 5pm – £6

En Garde, amigos! Prepare to fight with professional instructor Liam Evans-Ford. A family fight workshops for all ages and abilities. Learn the secrets behind the battles in a practical workshop.

Mimika – Small Worlds – Friday 1st November, 11am, 12.30pm, 2.30pm, 6pm (1hr) – Saturday 2nd November, 11am, 12:30pm, 2:30pm, 4pm (1hr) – £6 – For 5 to 11 year olds

Step inside Mimika’s beautiful white canvas dome and experience this intimate, atmospheric and spellbinding show. Meet five characters – a bug, a young goose, a fox cub, a cat and a six year old girl – and watch their five interweaving stories unfold…stories about journeys, big and small, stories about taking that first faltering step into a much bigger world. Very limited capacity, so book early.
