Don’t fret about what to do at half term; we’ll bring you the best of what York’s got to offer, and all you have to do is decide what you fancy. As usual, York Museums Trust has put together a whole host of fab activities for families, and much of it is free! Here’s a little taster.
A magical opportunity to learn more about the night life in York Museum Gardens, from owls and bats to telescopes and stars. Hear about the plans for hedgehog mapping, listen to nocturnal stories in the enchanted, fairy-lit glade and marvel at a fantastic fire show. A memorable evening for all.
York Museum Gardens – Wednesday 30th October – 5pm to 9pm – Free – Entry via the Marygate entrance only.
Meet Victorian adventurer Tempest Anderson to hear his stories of pioneering trips photographing active volcanoes over 100 years ago.
Yorkshire Museum – Monday 28th October to Friday 1st November, ever half hour from 11.30am to 3.30pm – Normal admission charges apply (York Card holders get free admission, and children under 16 are always free).
Get into the Science Lab and learn how volcanoes work before conducting experiments and making your own volcano to take home.
Yorkshire Museum – Saturday 26th October to Sunday 3rd November – 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm– Normal admission charges apply (York Card holders get free admission, and children under 16 are always free).
A feast of autumn activities to look forward to every day, including discovering harvest time and making your own corn dolly (11am to 3pm every day), making autumnal pictures using apple printing and lots of other fruit-related fun (11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm every day).
York Castle Museum – Activities from 10am to 4pm every day during half term – Normal admission charges apply (York Card holders free, and children under 16 always enter for free).
