Family activities for the Jubilee Weekend at York Minster
Mark Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and celebrate her historic reign with a range of family-friendly activities at York Minster. Remember that kids go free at York Minster with a paying adult and admission is free for York residents with valid proof of address.
Get crafty in Dean’s Park – Thursday 2 and Friday 3 June, 10.00am – 3.00pm
Visit our activity marquee in Dean’s Park and create your own piece of bunting to help decorate the space and our services over the jubilee weekend. Take part in colouring activities or ‘Become a Royal’ with a photo opportunity inspired by the cathedral’s Kings’ Screen. The activities are free of charge and available on a drop-in basis, no need to book.
Saturday Mornings at York Minster – Saturday 4 June at 10.00am
Our popular drop-in sessions for families return with a Jubilee twist. The sessions run throughout the year and explore the seasons in the Christian calendar with a different interactive opportunity each time including craft workshops, sensory activities, music and worship. See full details here.
Little Explorer Backpacks
Our Little Explorer Backpacks are packed with gadgets including a map, binoculars, and a magnifying glass to help little adventurers explore the medieval Minster.
The backpacks are available daily and are free with general admission on a first-come, first-served basis.
Majesty: Monarchy and York Minster
Discover York Minster’s royal connections and collections through a new exhibition exploring the cathedral’s centuries-old relationship with the monarchy in celebration of Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Special features for young visitors include the chance to try on regal robes, bear a crown and sceptre, and pose for a majestic photograph showing off their best royal wave. See full details here.
