Rowntree Park’s 100th Birthday
There are a few things happening around Rowntree Park on Saturday 17th July 2021 to celebrate the park’s 100th birthday. Here’s what’s coming up.
Stalls 10 am to 2 pm – The Friends of Rowntree Park will have a couple of stalls near the cafe, where you can go along and find out more about what they are up to, how to get more involved, share your ideas for an ‘ideal park’, get some amazing merchandise and more.
Free Family Event – Bees and Butterflies – Sessions at 10.30 and 12pm. This is a free session for children (aimed at ages 2-12, approximately). You will be finding out more about the park’s new pollinator project, doing bee and butterfly crafts and also making some bee homes. Places are limited (due to Covid safety) so you can book in advance, or come on the day and see if there is space: Book here.
Gardening Open Day 12 pm – 2 pm – Some of the volunteer gardeners will be out and about in the main areas that The Friends of Rowntree Park cares for in the centre of the park. Pop along and find out more about their plans for the area and have a chat about their work.
History Tour 4pm – Join a free history walk/tour around the park. The group will be limited to 12 people. Book here
(Another walk is available on 13th of July at 10am)
The Park Keeper – 4 pm and 7.30 pm – Park Bench Theatre will have two shows that day of their new play loosely based on the life of Rowntree Park’s first park keeper, Parkie Bell (or Parky). Tickets here.
