Family fun at the National Railway Museum

The National Railway Museum’s hugely enjoyable Miniature Railway will be back just in time for May Half Term, so hop aboard for a little taste of train travel. Unleash your curiosity with Pop-up Science shows during the holiday, which will bring science and engineering alive for all ages through simple, relatable concepts and play.

Check out their new exhibition, Railway Heroes, showcasing the tremendous railway workers who have helped key workers to and from their jobs and given back to their communities—and country—during the COVID-19 pandemic.

There are also lunch packages available to book in advance, with options for adults and children. Booking ahead will allow you to skip the queue to pick up your food. There are also picnic tables throughout the site if you bring your own snacks.

National Railway Museum is open 10.00-17.00, Wednesday – Sunday during term time and every day during selected holiday dates. The museum is free to enter but booking ahead online is encouraged and can even be done on the day (capacity allowing). There may be a few changes to safety measures in place since your last visit, so check the National Railway Museum website before your visit.
