Dalby Forest Zog Trail
Dalby Forest has long been one of our top spots for a family day out from York, thanks to its amazing scenery, cycle and walking trails and epic adventure playground. The Little Vikings audience loves Dalby too: it was voted Best Family Day out (North York Moors) in this year’s Little Vikings Awards. And guess what? It’s just got even better for children. A new trail at Dalby has just opened, based on the much loved Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler book, Zog.
Head to the Visitor Centre and grab a Zog trail activity pack for £4 before starting the trail for lots of fun things to do on your forest adventure. Children can channel their inner Zog by donning a pair of wings and completing fun challenges to collect golden stars. They can also pop on the magic glasses to look for hidden letters along the way to solve a word puzzle. At the end of the trail, complete a crayon rubbing to get your certificate and take a selfie with Zog himself! The perfect souvenir of your day out. The trail is 1 mile (2km long) and is an easy, accessible route on level, surfaced ground that’s suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
To take your dragon training to the next level, there’s a brand new augmented reality app – ‘Zog: A Forest Adventure’ – that’s free to download from your favourite app store. We’d always recommend downloading any apps before you get to the forest as the signal can be patchy.
