Friendly staff, a warm atmosphere and great food whatever time of day make this a popular choice, so expect to queue and maybe share a table at peak times. But it’s worth it.

Where to eat in York with kidsA relative newcomer to the York eating scene, The Rattle Owl has quickly gained a brilliant reputation for top-notch food in stylish surroundings. Children are warmly welcomed – we’ve visited a few times with our kids and they love it. No chicken nuggets on this kids’ menu: how about cutlet of Nidderdale lamb with new potatoes, minted peas and gravy or breaded monkfish goujons with hand-cut chips and garden peas? A steal at £3!
