Rain, shine or snowstorm, we’re always in the mood for ice cream. And as luck would have it, York’s full of lovely places to eat it. Here’s our pick of the best, as tested by us (tough job but someone’s got to do it).

Luxury Ice Cream Company (LICC)

winnerstar-150This quirky city centre ice cream parlour is a joy, with its vintage style interior and wonderful homemade ice creams. Sit in the cafe, grab a table outside or get a cone to take away and enjoy on a stroll through the streets.

Roberto Authentic Italian Gelato

Highly Commended - 100pxThis Italian gelato, made daily on the premises, has to be tasted to be believed. Roberto kicked off his York ice cream empire at the stylish Goodramgate cafe and has now expanded to another outlet on Parliament Street. Wherever you are in York, there’s no excuse for bad ice cream!  Coffee, crepes, cakes and sandwiches also available.

Trinacria

Highly Commended - 100pxThis ever-popular neighbourhood Sicilian trattoria in the award-winning Bishy Road area of York serves gorgeous gelato in generous portions. Eat in the lovely bistro (which warmly welcomes families to enjoy its all-day menu of freshly cooked food) or take out and enjoy at Rowntree Park, around the corner.

Two Hoots Ice Cream Boat

Highly Commended - 100pxYork’s first ever ice cream boat, Two Hoots is an absolute must-visit. Regularly moored at the Millennium Bridge during the summer months, they serve really tasty ice cream with river views as standard. Check their Facebook page for their whereabouts as things can change with the weather.
