We’ve got the Victorians to thank for many of our Christmas traditions, so where better to get in the Christmas spirit than York Castle Museum’s Victorian street, Kirkgate? In fact, the whole museum has lots going on during the festive season for us to enjoy and these are just a few of the best for kids.
Victorian Christmas Experience
For a magical Christmas experience you’ll never forget, head to Kirkgate, the Castle Museum’s Victorian Street. Meet the residents and traders as they prepare for Christmas and take part in a Victorian shopping trip. Families who manage to find everything on the shopping list will meet a very special person. Price includes shopping list gifts, present from Santa, coffee and mince pies for adults and juice and biscuits for kids.

Mr Tackleton’s Christmas Tale

Listen to Ebeneezer Scrooge tell this classic Christmas tale on Kirkgate, the Victorian street. We went along to this last year and our little Vikings still talk about it now. A lovely thing to do together on Christmas Eve.

Kids in the Kitchen: Christmas treats!
Start your Christmas preparations with the kids by making some special tree decorations and traditional ginger pigs in the Castle Kitchen.
