CBBC videogames at the Science + Media Museum this half term

The Science + Media Museum in Bradford is an inspiring place for kids at any time, but this February half term there’s an extra reason to go: a whole week around the theme of CBBC video games! From 15th February to 23rd February 2020, children will be able to try new games, have a go at coding and play with the experts. It sounds well worth making the trip to Bradford for, if your kids are as keen on CCBC programmes and video games as ours! Here’s what’s coming up.

SCIENCE SHOWDOWN: GAME ON!

When: 11.00, 12.30, 14.00, 15.30
Where: Wonderlab Studio, Level 3

In this live science show, different experiments battle it out to be crowned your winner. Join our Explainers for explosions, surprising science and amazing activities! Event information for Science Showdown: Game On!

GAME DESIGN WORKSHOP

When: 17–18 February at 11.00, 12.30, 14.30
Where: Makespace, Level 4

Put your coding skills to the test in this 1-hour workshop. Create a basic game using Scratch programming, then use your imagination to really make it your own. Event information for Game Design Workshop

DROP-IN ACTIVITIES

PLAY ZONE

Where: Gallery 1, Level 1

Play your favourite CBBC and CBeebies games—plus some brand new additions—from the likes of Danger Mouse, The Worst Witch and The Next Step. The CBBC Own It team will be on hand with tips and tricks that’ll help you boss your online life!

CBBC GAMES DISPLAY

Where: Gallery 1, Level 1

See CBeebies’ Playtime Island’ set in real life—it’s your last chance before the brand new online version launches! Plus, explore graphics and videos showing behind-the-scenes insights into game design at CBBC and CBeebies.

A-MAZE-ING CODE

Where: Gallery 1, Level 1

Use LEGO to make a maze, use your coding skills to move around it, then challenge friends and family to test it! Will your maze be added to the ‘hall of fame’ display?

NO CODE NEEDED

Where: Makespace, Level 4

Ever wanted to be a game designer? Here’s your chance… Pick a game from a list of exciting options, design and draw it, then see it come to life online. Please note: This activity will not be available on 17 or 18 February.
