A KM experience is about choice and discovery. Students select from 100 activities including Games Design, Enterprise Club, Mandarin, Esports and Woodlands Survival. In Year 6, pupils choose two curriculum options and in Year 7, talented students can join a pathway in performance sport or performing arts. By Year 9, our students have experienced QE’s 36 GCSE options, so they are well-rounded and prepared for Year 10 options.

Unlike other schools, we forgo Year 6 SATs for additional learning in languages, computer science and ‘future skills’ such as digital literacy, AI, entrepreneurship, information retention and revision.

Where happy girls and boys thrive, The Mount Prep School is proud to be Primary School of the Year 2026 in My Local Awards!

The Mount Prep School offers a remarkable education designed to empower young minds, capture imagination and fulfil potential. Our pupils make the most of every opportunity, both inside and outside the classroom, including Forest School in our leafy acres. We are committed to igniting a lifelong love of learning in every child, fostering exploration and creativity so they can confidently make their mark on the world.

The unique ‘Explore, Discover, Create’ topic-led Prep School curriculum is an innovative way of teaching through independent thinking where curiosity leads the way, hand in hand with our vibrant co-curricular opportunities.

This is underpinned by our Quaker ethos where respect, equality, thinking and living adventurously and making a positive contribution to our changing world alongside striving for personal excellence are key values we all live every day.

The Good Schools Guide describes The Mount as, “a place of calm compassion in the heart of the city” and said, “pupils we met spoke eloquently and with confidence from Prep School onward”.

Nothing beats a visit…

Please sign up here for our Open Doors event on Saturday 6 June 2026, 10 am – 12 noon to meet staff and tour our leafy acres, including our brand-new dance studio.

Pupils are encouraged to discover and develop their strengths across all areas of school life, whether through academics, sport, music, drama, outdoor education or community involvement. Music and drama are a vibrant part of the school community, with opportunities to take part in choirs, orchestras, productions, musical performances and LAMDA activities from an early age. Outdoor learning and residential experiences also play an important role in helping children develop independence and resilience.

Community engagement is rooted in Bootham’s Quaker ethos, encouraging pupils to approach the world with kindness, responsibility and respect for others. Children at Bootham are well known as individuals and are given the confidence to try new experiences, contribute to school life and develop their own interests in a supportive environment.
