A weekend of amazing ice sculptures dotted around our lovely city? We’re in! Yes, the fantastic York Ice Trail is back this weekend (Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th December), bigger and better than ever. See if you can spot all 35 glistening creations, from a glittering Marilyn Monroe to a Nutcracker. Take a selfie as a UFO astronaut in St Sampson’s Square and collect a ‘chill to reveal’ card for a chance to win an Apple iPad Mini 2 (that’d be one present ticked off the list!).Gillygate, Walmgate, Goodramgate and Fossgate have been added to the trail, giving you a good excuse to explore further afield and maybe do some Christmas shopping while you’re at it.
There’ll be stalls selling the obligatory mulled wine, as well as all the other lovely sights, sounds and enticements of the York Christmas Festival. Pick up an Ice Trail map for free from the Visit York Information Centre on Museum Street (and pick up the Christmas issue of Little Vikings while you’re there….and maybe one of our I Love York kids’ t-shirts!).
Fancy combining the Ice Trail with a visit to Santa in the Shambles? We visited last weekend and you can read our review here. Or how about traveling back in time at York Castle Museum and visiting Santa in a Victorian schoolroom as part of the Christmas Mystery kids’ trail? Read about our visit here. Thor’s Tipi will also be busy serving festive refreshments from its Parliament Street home, and don’t forget the fairground rides in King’s Square. All in all, for a tip-top, icy cold festive family weekend, York’s got it covered.
