The BAFTA-Qualifying Aesthetica Film Festival (ASFF) has become one of York’s best-loved festivals, and it returns to the city from 7th to 11th November 2018 with a fabulous programme of films, including great options for families. Now in its eighth year, ASFF will screen a whopping 300 short and feature films across 15 venues, from comedy and drama to documentary and thriller. The festival also offers York’s first Virtual Reality lab, with 360-degree immersive experiences in York Theatre Royal.
ASFF hosts a number of family-friendly screenings, showcasing stop-motion techniques, animation and live-action films. Themes include love triumphing over fear, learning to live with loss, the experience of memories and the concept of belief. Although designed with 4-to12-year olds in mind, the themes are so universal that there’s much for everyone to enjoy.
Over 100 inspiring events will also run across the city, including masterclasses, panel discussions and pitching sessions with household names including the BBC, Film4, StudioCanal and Aardman Animations (creators of Wallace and Gromit). This year also sees the return of Cinema Bambino – tailored films of all genres for parents and carers of babies from 0 months to two years old. And that gets the Little Vikings vote, as we think you’re never too young to experience the joys of going out to catch a film.
