A Famous Five Summer at RHS Harlow Carr

It’s a Famous Five summer at RHS Harlow Carr in Harrogate, with events and activities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the first Famous Five book, Five on a Treasure Island. Activities include:

Daily trail – Help the Famous Five find Uncle Quentin who has gone missing on a horticultural research mission!
Story writing workshops – Join creative writing experts as they showcase their story generator and share their tips on writing the best short stories. Mondays at 10.30am to 12.30pm & 1pm to 3pm
Garden Detectives Storytelling sessions – Every Tuesday throughout the summer holidays, the Garden Detectives will introduce a Famous Five character. Meet George, Timmy, Dick, Anne and Julian and take part in a garden adventure with them each week.  Tuesdays at 11am, 1pm & 3pm in The Lodge.
Craft workshops – On Wednesdays you’ll have the chance to make your own Famous Five explorer kit to take on your adventures around the garden. You can make a different item each week. Week 1: Adventure binoculars; Week 2: Secret message paper; Week 3: Paper picnic baskets; Week 4: Compasses; Week 5: Make a disguise; Week 6: Adventure medals or badges
Outdoor workshop – Outdoor workshops on Fridays explore how flowers and herbs can be used in food, medicines and drinks.
On 11th August, pack a picnic and help to celebrate what would have been Enid Blyton’s 120th birthday. There’ll be music and games too. There’ll also be six outdoor performances of Five on a Treasure Island by Gobbledigook Theatre (10th to 12th August), which we’ve heard great things about. Lashings of ginger beer optional.

The Famous Five Summer Holiday Adventure runs at RHS Harlow Carr, Crag Lane, Harrogate, from 22nd July to 3rd September 2017
