What’s On This Week in York For Families (11th November)


Fireworks and pumpkins are out, mince pies and mistletoe are in: there’s no escaping the fact that Christmas is just around the corner (in fact we even met Santa today at Stockeld Park; review to follow). If you need something to entertain the kids between stints of Christmas shopping, here are some ideas of what’s on in and around York for families this week.

Toddler Tasting Time – York Castle Museum – 12.30pm to 1.30pm – Free for session (normal entry charges apply for museum entry; York Card holders free)

Drop in to taste some historic ingredients, listen to a story and join in with rhymes related to the ingredients. This week’s ingredient is coconut. Call 01904 650333 to book.

The St Helen’s Hospice Christmas tree will be switched on by the Lord Mayor and special guests, including performances by the Dishforth & York Military Wives Choirs.

What’s On This Week in York For Families (11th November) York for KidsLittle Diggers – DIG – £3 per child, one accompanying adult is free – 10.30am for an hour

The Little Diggers group is a Saturday morning session for 2-5 year olds at DIG. An enthusiastic guide takes the little diggers on an archaeological adventure with a different theme each week. It’s great fun and fantastic value. Booking is essential: call 01904 615 505.

This indoor and outdoor exhibition of life-size sculptures by award-winning sculptor Andrew Kay captures the powerful anatomy of wild beasts.

Experience real Christmas magic at Stockeld Park, home of the Enchanted Forest. As well a chance to visit Santa in his grotto (and meet the reindeer of course), there’s ice-skating and Nordic skiing on offer, as well as a maze and outdoor play areas galore.
